I am absent (online) for around 2 weeks. Haven’t posted anything on social media about my sketches and stuffs.
This is because I’ve been busy on two things, which I will mention later on as we go along this 3-part blog post.
But even on my days of absence, I was still able to sketch given a short period of free time, like during lunch, or when sitting, waiting, etc.
So here are my sketches during my absence.
National Shrine of St. Joseph Church Door
I stopped by in this church, and it happen that there’s no on-going church service.
Meaning, the place is silent and only a few people is in the church.
This church consist of several doors such as the one I drew.
The green and yellow light passing through the glass attracts me. Thus, I decided to draw it.
The one I drew is the door on the right side of the church. This door does not only provide the people as an entry or exit point, but also provides airflow to the whole church structure.
With these doors lining up, facing each other, the air can flow in and out of the church giving air to the church-goers.
In SM with my girlfriend. We ate in this restaurant called Jonies because I like to eat their sandwich.
We choose a place to sit in. It so happen we are situated near the window.
We are still waiting for our orders, and the view outside is a sketch-temptation.
The sketch below shows the Jeepney terminal in SM, Cebu.
It shows a long roof with tubes that serves as a pillar of the roof and at the same time a place to sit in.
Jeepneys will park depending on their route. People will sometimes lined up waiting for the jeepney.
I wasn’t able to color this because we’re done with our meal. We have to go immediately.
I have an appointment at 7pm. I arrived early (around 6pm).
Dunkin Donuts is just near the area, and so I went in to grab a bite.
With a donut and a hot drink in the table, I sketch the place.
This is Donkin Donut in Mandaue (in front of Jollibee Centro).
It’s a small store, that’s why the chairs and tables are lined up close to each other.
It’s a very rough sketch. I only use plain paper with pen and a few inks.
The right portion is the counter/cashier where you place your orders and pay.
The left side is a glass wall.
On the lower right is an electric fan. Even though the place is air-conditioned, the fan can amplify (sort of) the coldness, or perhaps transfer the cold flow. Whatever.
I mentioned above that there are two reasons why I was absent. Why I was busy.
One of those reason is that for one month (whole month of July), I was planning and preparing for my marriage proposal to my girlfriend.
It’s an exciting event because everything has to be done in secret.
I already bought an engagement ring two weeks ago. But there’s still a lot of things to do.
Another part of the plan is to print several pictures of her.
I am now in KFC (SM, Mabolo branch) eating my lunch as I waited for the pictures to be printed.
The store attendant says I have to be back after 30 minutes to 1 hour.
That gives me enough time to eat my lunch.
This is the view in KFC while I ate my lunch.
Pen and ink on plain paper. I actually bought a small bottle of cheap ink which I used to splash around my sketch.
We attended the first birthday celebration of the son of my friend.
They celebrated it in the house of her sister.
I started sketching while they are preparing the decoration.
But unfortunately I wasn’t able to finish my sketch because I have to go and get the lechon (roasted pig).
Me and my girlfriend found this array of stores, showcasing several local-made food.
I sat and sketch whatever’s in front of me.
This is one of those stores:
This one sells Siomai (steamed Chinese dumpling).
It’s a very small store. In fact, another store is connected beside it.
Also, when I drew this, I was excited on the big event tomorrow: The Proposal.
Relaxing In The Resort
By this time, the Proposal is said and done. 🙂
And my friends are relaxing and drinking and eating.
Here’s the unfinished quick sketch.
That ends Part 1.
As you can notice, most of my drawings are in black and white (or in pen and ink).
Because it would take time to color them.
You already know the first reason why I’m busy on those dates. Follow me on Parts 2 and 3 to know the second reason.
Before ending Part 1, here are the photos of me sketching on location:
