I finish Filthy today.
Okay, let’s have a status check.
Today is Day 23, and I finish Filthy which is a theme from Day 18.
Five themes away. The gap is getting wider.
Change of strategy. I’ll do the coloring after all of the themes are done. My priority is to finish inking. Just the basic requirement for Inktober.
It’s Sunday. And although I am free today, I only manage to ink a portion of Filthy.
Most of the time, I sleep.
Was able to recharge.
It’s weekend. And I got a scheduled activity today: Sketchwalk with Urbansketchers Cebu.
I spent the whole morning on that activity. And then went home afterwards. (My girlfriend is out of town.)
At home, I finish “Graceful”.
I also started penciling the next theme: Filthy.
So the caricature is finished yesterday. Actually I worked on that until 4am. So it’s basically day 20.
Come to think of it. I got two caricature request this month.
I must admit I’m not good in caricature. In fact, the one I draw doesn’t look the same with the actual person. Well, yah I know caricature is made that way. But it just looks like a different person. 😀
Today I feel tired, but I still manage to finish “Fat”.
And as usual, you will see the whole drawing once I color it.
For now, that’s just the picture of the portion of my whole drawing.
Started Day 16 “Fat” today.
Already made a pencil sketch. And then….
And then there is a caricature request from my officemate.
It’s urgent because that person will leave the office soon.
I finish the caricature and the found out that “Fat” will not be finished today.
Created Day 15 “Mysterious” today. Inking is done but no color. Still qualifies as an Inktober entry.
Today, I accomplished more than the previous day.
I finish two Inktober prompt. One is from Day 13 “Teeming” and the other is from Day 14 “Fierce”.
No color yet, but is now considered done as Inktober entry.
And also, I finished coloring Day 7 “Shy”. Here’s the output:
Status: 3 entries late.
Accomplished several things today.
First, I finish sketching and inking “Shattered”.
Second, I finish coloring “Sword”. Here’s the finish product.
The theme is sword. But I heard the saying “Pen is mightier than the sword.” So there you go.
Inkober status: Finished sketching and inking Shattered which is for Day 12. And yet we are now in Day 16.
4 days behind! But still I would say I accomplished a lot today.
Day 14 – 15
No major sketching today. It’s weekends afterall.
And just like the previous weekend, I did nothing. Thus making my art more late than ever.
My inktober was two days late last week. And since I did nothing this weekend, that makes it 4 days late.
Throughout the weekend, I did several concept thumbnails.
This is so that when I started sketching on monday, I already have an idea what to draw.
Overall, I made thumbnails from Day 12 to Day 19.
Somehow, this weekend is productive (in a way). But still not qualified as an inktober entry.
Well see how this goes on monday. Will my thumbnails helpful? We’ll find out soon.
It seems that I am not pissed anymore. Not like last night.
I went in to grab my sketchbook and start sketching.
Still working on the “Run” theme.
Everything went on smoothly.
I changed my concept this time.
The concept of “Run” I’m doing is about running an automated robot. Or running an experiment. Or compiling the code to run. Something like that.
After inking, I feel relieved and satisfied of my work. Exactly the opposite feeling I had last night.
Will color it soon.
By this day, I started thinking of a “Run” concept.
I thought of a bunny and a turtle running, racing.
But when I started to sketch it in pencil, the turtle doesn’t look dynamic.
And so I erased the pencil and thought of another concept.
Next idea is a man cutting a tree, and then all the forest run. I thought of a pun: “Run forest, run”.
But I didn’t even sketch this. First reason is, I find it difficult to imagine the camera angle. If it’s a bird’s eye view I might find it difficult to draw a perspective of a tree. Much more of a running tree (which is unusual).
Tree is usually associated with stability, stillness. And creating a running tree may need a little effort.
I can’t believe it’s already night time and I haven’t thought of a good concept.
I ride a public vehicle going home, and I take the travel time opportunity to think of a concept. I have to arrive on a certain concept before I reach home.
And yes, I thought of one.
It would be a puppy, lots of puppies, running and chasing a man. Why it chased the man? Because the man is a skeletal man. Dogs or puppies likes bones right?
So I thought of drawing lots of puppies (much more like a doodle concept wherein several small puppies overlapping each other.)
Okay, so I reached home, eat dinner, and then started sketching.
First the puppies.
After sketching the first 5 puppies, I notice that it doesn’t look like one.
It looks more of a rat than a puppy. This is because it’s my first time drawing a puppy.
I immediately draw it impromptu without practicing first.
So what happen is, I tried to adjust the nose and proportion on the next few puppies.
Although it improved a little, but still overall it looked like a rat.
A started to feel annoyed. But I still continued. More puppies here and there.
And then once I feel up a considerable area, I tried to cross-hatch the gaps between puppies.
And now it looks more ugly. Shit!
Piss level increases.
It’s 1 hour before midnight. I continued.
I draw the skeleton man and it doesn’t look good too. I remember I draw a nightwalker before (like a zombie with bones appearing outside the body). And that looks good. But this time when I draw the skeletal man it doesn’t.
So yeah, I continued. I added a few clothes flying around as though he removed the clothing while running. And then sketched the ground, the waters, etc.
12:30am and I’m angry at myself after looking at my drawing.
I want to maintain quality of my Inktober this month. And I don’t feel this artwork pass my standard.
I close my sketchbook and still pissed.
I better go to sleep now. And draw again tomorrow.
Today I finish two Inktober prompt. One is Screech and the other is Gigantic.
Sketching and inking is done. But no color yet.
I consider this done as this is the minimum requirement of Inktober. But I still want to color it.
What’s remaining is to do Run. Hopefully I could catch up.
Finally I was able to finish sketching and inking “Crooked”.
I’m super late, and I don’t even know how to arrange this story into a blog form.
It’s now Day 10 and I am still doing the theme from Day 8.
Remaining to-do’s: Color the artwork starting from Day 6. It’s all ink so far. No color yet.
By this time around, I have a rough estimate on the task at hand.
Think of a concept: around 2 hours
Sketch: around 2 hours
Inking: around 30 minutes
Color: around 4 hours
Total of 8.5 hours
Imagine you have to squeeze that in your daily routine.
It’s Inktober afterall. And I am aiming for quality work this month.
The “Shy” artwork is finished. Sketch plus ink. But no color yet.
I started “Crooked” immediately.
I’m targeting to finish it within the day.
Then suddenly my officemate requested me to draw a caricature for someone.
Drawing the caricature took time. And the “Crooked” artwork remains unfinished.
I did nothing today.
I made a few pencil lines, but nothing major.
I won’t be shy when I say my artwork is late.
Both Day 7 and Day 8 is hard. Not because of the theme, but because it falls on weekends.
And weekend means going to the mall and stuff.
I finish nothing today.
And now, this will become like falling dominoes. This late artwork will eventually affects the other art entry as well.
It’s Day 7, and I can already feel the challenge.
Okay, so I was able to catch up.
I finish sketching Day 6, but only to the sketching part. No color.
I’ll post it here once the color is done.
Day 5: Long
Day 5 and the art entries are late.
I sketched this on Day 5 but wasn’t able to finish. Too sleepy.
The sketch was done on Day 6. And then I decided not to color it.
I decided to proceed sketching on Day 6 theme.
Once done, I went back to my art in Day 5 and color it.
The theme is Long. I thought of Pinocchio’s nose, but I decided not to draw that.
The Great Wall of China is also long. Until it derives into dragons and stuff.
So here’s my artwork for Day 5.
This is truly a challenge. I need to catch up with the schedule.
Day 4: Underwater
The theme is underwater. I’m still tired from making Day 3. It was tiresome.
I was thinking of making a simple drawing for Day 4. But something inspired me.
What inspired me is this. What if I will consistently make colorful arts with the same size format until Day 30.
If I will continue doing this, I can then compile it into one art by Day 30.
The compilation would be a nice art to look at by Day 30.
Okay so here it goes. Stick figure now becomes this:
The concept here is underwater city.
Civilization making use of the water space. Huge corals are now innovated as rooms. It’s the equivalent for a building, or condominium, or hotel.
Residential houses have their own individual water shield so they have an open air space on their own.
I finish inking at around 9pm of Day 4. But the coloring continues until the next day.
In other words, I am late on this entry.
If this continues, I will be left behind in Inktober.
Day 3: Poison
I created this art by sketching a few lines.
Poisoned apple is the concept. Think about the apple that Snow White took.
And then suddenly, it was so fun that I couldn’t hold my self until I finish it.
This is too time consuming but fun.
I think I consumed around 4 hours or more.
Tired but satisfied. But still time-consuming.
Expect a stick figure tomorrow.
Me on my first few sketch:
Day 2: Divided
It’s like doing two themes in one day considering that I finish Swift just a few hours ago.
Here’s my entry for day 2. The theme is Divided.
With the recent flooding in the city and inspired by Moses, I created the following art.
And it’s Inktober once again.
I participated on this last year, and it really gives me an improvement on my arts. Inktober 2016
This year, I will participate and see how this unfolds as we journey through 30 days of sketching.
Day 1: Swift
Okay, so the first theme is Swift.
Last year, I use existing characters and drew it.
This time, I’ll try to make my own characters.
A slow, old man riding in a fast rocket. Making a swift motion as it pass by his comrades.
Day 1 is already a struggle.
I finish the sketch around 9pm. But I feel like I want to color it.
And so I finish the whole thing at around 1am. Basically it’s already the 2nd of October.
