This is a late post. I was sketching this one month ago.
But due to the many activities along the way, this post was delayed.
And it is only today that I am able to post this.
Anyway, here it is.
This basically shows my travel in Carcar, Cebu.
This is my way of journaling my experiences, the things around me, the place, the music, and many more.
This is a plein air sketch. Meaning I sketch this on the actual place with no reference except the actual object or actual place.
- 0.2 Technical pen
- Watercolor paper
So let’s begin.
As a start, this is, in a sense, a Christmas get-a-way.
I was with a group of friends, and we rented this place for two days and one night.
The place is not the best in the world, but I like the place because of its privacy.
We rented the whole house — that includes the kitchen, the bedroom, etc.
They also have swimming pool, and a beach in front.
Two days before the event, I already packed my things.
This is the sketch of my things as I packed.
It’s been a while since my last travel.
Although this is just a short-distanced trip, but I am still excited.
One can feel the festivity if there is food and music.
And we have this during the activity.
The group pledges different foods and we gather it in one table for consumption later on.
Also, this place has two huge sound box which I think is called a sub-woofer.
It is facing opposite to us so that it won’t get a feedback loop from the microphone.
As mentioned, this place has a swimming pool.
Not a big one, but enough for the group.
Even though it is not that big, but I am still contented with it. And we enjoyed swimming.
This place has a videoke/karaoke system.
This is what we want, to sing our hearts out. (I believe this speaks true to the majority of the Filipinos.)
This videoke/karaoke system is connected to an amplifier, and then to the sub-woofer I mentioned in #2. Giving off a loud festive sound.
During this time, I also brought with me my camera and a tripod.
I’ve been experimenting on landscape photography. Trying to test my newly bought remote shutter and ND filter.
I will blog on the photography side in a separate article.
Or perhaps not. We’ll see.
At night, we played cards. We laughed so hard we feel like our jaw is aching.
Not to mention it’s already 2am.
And of course, there is gift-giving.
It’s fun especially that we tried a different mechanics of exchanging gifts.
Full detail of this mechanics is explained here: Exchange Gift Variant: Steal The Gift Style
Aside from swimming pool, this place has a beach.
But don’t expect too much.
The beach is not that good. I still prefer the pool.
I’ve been in this place twice already, and I notice the sea is always in low tide.
Not sure if that is the right terminology, but the sea level is always shallow.
I suspect it is because of the terrain.
And this is the front wall.
The door leads to the bedroom.
Trying to capture the reddish wall and the brownish chair here.
Those chairs are usually used when someone is singing the videoke.
This is me sketching on location:
Having this activity journaled makes the event imprinted in my memory better than photograph.
If given a chance, I would definitely go back to this place again.
